A Wedding Weekend

I get back into NYC today, walk into work around 1:30 pm. I get about 50 questions coming in from all different directions about my weekend. My response to every question: it was one of the best weekends of my life. The obvious reason was just being at home with the people I love and the people that love me. Second, I got to spend an entire weekend celebrating my brother and my new sister. If you know anything about us, you know that family is everything to us. And to officially not only have a new sister, but to join together an entire new part of our family was so, so special. Friday night was rehersal dinner. And all my precious Hope crew SERVED us the entire night. It was honestly one of the strangest feelings to have so many of my good friend serving us. And still so special. Everyone got up and shared some pretty wonderful things about my big brother, and it was a true testiment to the amazing man he is and fantastic husband he will be. Saturday was pure celebration. It really was so powerful to be surrounded my so many people that love Morgan and Lauren and our families.

I'm sure there will be hundreds of pictures to come, but I want to share my favorite picture of the night that I have gotten to see (Thank you, Nancy Cunningham!!)

This was me and my Pop dancing to Sweet Caroline (as you probably know, my first name is Caroline). This was one of the first songs that was played, and no one had really joined on the dance floor yet, so I grabbed by dad and we busted it out on the dance floor. As you can see, we were having the time of our lives.

More picture to come, I can only assume, but for now - I'll just leave up my favorite.

Thank you, Memphis, for welcoming me back with open arms!

Happy Fathers Day!

Dear Pop,

Thank you for being the most supportive, loving father any young woman could ever ask for.

What makes a good dad?

He shows up.

He's there. And he always has been! Being a father is such a high calling, and my father has always modeled his life after the Holy Father. Thank you dad for committing your life to loving and supporting your family. Our mom, us. You've established a legacy, and Wright, Morgan, and I will always carry that with us.

We love you so so much!!!!!

THREE DAYS!!!!

Hello, again

It's been before my birthday since my last update so I thought I would check back in and say hello...
so... hello....

My math skills are a little rusty. I last posted announcing it was my 1/2 year mark in NYC. Though when I started recounting, I realized it's actually been 5 months. But alas my sixth month will be the end of this month. Right after I am home for Mo & Lauren's wedding. Speaking of, exactly two weeks from right now, we will be celebrating their marriage at Opera of Memphis. I am SO PUMPED. It's going to be fabulous to see everyone, especially my whole family! I'm excited to see MG's pregnant belly, too. It's going to be so nice to get out of this wild world for a weekend. Caroline's shower will be that Sunday as well so I am stoked. Open spaces....can't wait. We've also decided on a weekend for her bachelorette party. End of July in Nashville. Got a few fun things in mind for us to do. But if you have any other ideas to throw out for us to do, email/call/text me... Keeping our activities a surprise for Caroline.

Well, I am at Ali's apartment, trying to keep myself from ordering pizza. Been keeping to a strict regimine with my diet lately. So it won't be worth it to blow it with one delicious pepperoni pizza.

Well, till next time...

Cheers!

Genna Eve

So begins my 23rd year! Had a wonderful Genna Eve tonight with my roommate. We commented how the best night turn out when you're not expecting anything. Ate sushi by the apartment. Delicious as always. Then walked a bit to grab a cab up to the bcbg store uptown. We had thought the store was at 58th and Broadway in Columbus square, but (15 minutes before closing, mind you) we realize we were 11 block off. So we march up as fast as we can walk. along the way, we found some pretty nice sights:

Hotel Empire! Hey Chuck Bass!

Can you recognize what that is??

Lincoln Square of course & the new York ballet. What a beauty.
While my roommate stops to tame this picture, I press on because I want to make it to bcbg before the store closes. As she's running to catch up with me, I catch my 5th or 6th? celeb spotting. Owner of American Apparel, a very imfamous character for multiple reasons, is passing by and inappropriately staring at her run, turns around and continues to stare at her. TYPICAL. He had those thin rimmed big glasses on, super 80s creepin style.

Anyway, so we make it to the store. I grab the dress that I needed to try on to order in the correct size, and boom I'm outa there. Got me a dress to Morgan & Laurens rehearsal dinner!

Ashley and I decide to stroll back to our apartment in Murray hill from around Lincoln Center. Google it. It took awhile. Grabbed some ice cream for the road of course. We walked past some pretty fun stuff. Walked down 5th ave, which of course was an entire experience in itself even though all these stores were closed. Check on a few of the pictures we grabbed:

...and one of those little refrigerators that you open with a key... Whos got it? What movie/what building is this?

Another one for you to guess...

And another?

Alright easy one- where am I standing?

Last but not least, my birthday banner that mom and pop sent up for me that my rooms hung up in my window. Notice the vase with the flowers that I referenced last night...

ok Now it's 2 hours past my bed time. Much get my birthday rest.

Love!!

Can't...Stop...Cleaning....

Once you've started, you just can't stop. At first I was just cleaning up a few things around my room, and the next thing I know I've rearranged furniture, swiffered floors, wiped down counters, wash dishes, empty the dishwasher... Most of you wouldn't even recognize me right now, seriously! I'll save the bathroom/toilet for another day. I bought some flowers yesterday for my room, and using the glass milk bottle that Johnny and Lucy Long bought me while they were in town - looks like a got myself a vase. And it's sitting right next to my picture of Owen beside my bed - smiles. Also just turned my blow up bed into a couch/futon/kitchen table/closet space. But really it's a queen size blow up bed and I turned it longways against the wall, put a fitted sheet on it, and threw a comforter on top. Its a pretty enticing deal for whoever comes to visit this summer.  My room almost looks like a REAL room now! Lovely. Now I just need to figure out a curtain situation - my balcony door is connected to my window so it makes for an awkward angle to hang curtain. Hmmm.....

Made some grilled chicken tonight, pretty simple stuff. I haven't been eating starches for the past 1.5 weeks (eternity). It's like there are no other options out there. I'm trying to make it till Wednesday, my birthday, though I don't even think cutting starches out has done one thing. Maybe it takes longer than a week and a half to start losing weight, but I guess I've just had it way too easy in the past. 23 is all too much a reality right now. When I told my friend Henry earlier that I didn't want to turn 23, he says, "why, it's great!" His "argument" was that 23 sounds so much older and you get more respect. My response (and all I heard out of that statement) was that I just sound older because I'm old now. Ah - I should stop my complaints because 23 is still very young. And there's no other holiday I love more than my birthday. I'm kidding, sort of. Mom sent me up a Happy Birthday banner to hang it my room. My roommate said to leave it in her room and she'd hang it because there's no way I can hang my other birthday banner.

Wow, I wrote a lot tonight. Oh, and one more thing. A friend promised me that if I gave him a shout out on here he'd finally follow me. So here it is
My first Peace Love Chi O date, Drew Plunk
Please take note of the Jessica Simpson poster hanging in Drew and Morgan's room from that year.

Annnnd another one - Destin '08

There ya go, Rew. Now you better follow through.

Night, folks. Happy Genna Eve Eve.

Back

Hi all - No, no. I have not given up writing. Just a little break to clear my head, and refocus. It's been a rather slow month so far, but I am back.

I want to thank all of you who have been so loving and encouraging to me in the past few weeks/few months. Calls, texts, letters, packages... I feel so blessed to have such an amazing support system.

Tim Keller spoke tonight at Redeemer about the Wisdom of God. How are we to attain it? When you have decisions ahead of you that aren't simply right or wrong, how are we to attain the wisdom to make the best choices? And when we are struggling, remembering that God has a full view of this universe. So relying on Him and trusting in Him even during our hardships: how? By fearing him. Not z scared fear, but fear as in being completely reverent and in awe of who He is and what He has done. By simply being still. Be still.

That sermon really spoke to where I am right now. 3 days away from turning 23, and pressing on to seek that wisdom.

Apologies for coming back with such a serious note, but I thought I would share what is on my heart.

Love you all, and I promise tomorrow's post will be much more bright!

Where were you?

Let's get back to Thursday. Skip ahead if you'd like to hear about my where were you when you heard the news.

Yankees game with Ali, Logan, Jonas, and one of his friends. Ali and I agreed we've got to try to make this a twice a month thing because it was such a blast. Only 6 stops on the 4 train uptown, then you hope right off in front of Yank Stadium. Such a fun memory.

The next pic is of my Christmas presents from Santa for when my over the weekend guests come. If you're planning on coming up and staying with me get excited:

Queen size off the floor most comfortable blow up mattress in the world

Amanda and Nathan were my next visitors! We went out for some delicious food with Ali, Logan, and her rooms Jess. So delicious.

Saturday we had brunch and walked around in TriBeCa then shopped all around the area. Had dinner at Smith & Mills. Best meal of the Weekend. Hands down. Those burgers (very burgers) were stupid good. If you to go to one nice restaurant while here, id pick this place. Quaint space, unique decorations, food was spectacular. Oh and the waitress asked if we heard of the place from Jesse and Nathan, and we said, "you mean Jared and Nathan? As in kings of Leon?!" She said that is their favorite restaurant and they come in all the time because they live right around the corner. Highlight of our Weekend of sure.

Sunday we had a nice brunch at a place Diana recommended to me which was also fantastic. We shopped off union square on fifth avenue. I had to have Amanda remove me from the free people store because it was overwhelming how much we wanted to buy. Can somebody say...bday ideas...??? It is officially my birthday month now!! I can't believe I've already been here four months as of tomorrow. It has passed by so quickly. As we headed back to pack Amanda up to leave, I noticed a paparazzi standing in front of the Ganzevoort. I told Amanda and Nate we should wait around SMS see who he is waiting to snap a picture of, and who else but Christina Aguillera. The cheesier the celeb, the better sighting, I'd say. Amanda and Nathan hated our celebrity spotting as they wanted to see someone better ha, but I laughed pretty hard at it as I thought it was pretty hysterical!! Not every day you get to see someone like that, even if it's not the Kings of Leon themselves.

Who can name this car?

we were shopping for our future (way future) mini men babies (i was just going to say mini men, but I thought id be more clear just to not cause any confusion) in the baby section at all saints.

Da delancey bruddas! What movie?

Madison Square park. Can anyone explain why this giant human head is in the middle of the lawn? And those people aren't dead they're just resting on a nice day...at least I hope so

And how could we forget amanda's super lovely shot of her face that she put on my phone background (still there). Creep or beautiful? Creepily beautiful. Or beautifully creepy. You pick Amanda.

Now getting back to the weekend. And where in was when I heard the news. After Amanda left, I soon hopped in bed to get me a full nights sleep. My roommate Ashley came in and woke me up about two hours after and told me the news. She told me there had been a leak from somewhere in Washington and that Obama was about to make an address. I wish I'd been more awake to hear it, but I did think Obama did a nice delivery. I'd rather not start getting political as this blog is not about pushing any buttons, but I am so proud of our country, our President, and those heroes of yesterday, some might be named and many many more not. But thank you all so much for the years of work dedication to bringing Osama to justice. We must not neglect to acknowledge the people who dedicate their lives to doing these behind the scenes jobs, because you'll never see them on CNN, but they are what makes this happen. It does not seem right celebrating a human beings death, but to know the victims of all the lives lost have closure and see justice is a beautiful thing.

Many hearts and Happy Genna Month. (sorry if it's your birthday in may too, it's just what I call it!) I'll be counting down the days to my birthday...

Countdown to my Birthday:

23 DAYS

Oh and this super long post is for you pop. Love y'all.

Pinkberry!

Oh what a terrify Tuesday! It was another slow day at work, but outside of that it was a rather exciting day.

1. Lollapalooza Lineup just came out and it made me almost tear up it's so good. Beginning of august well be taking a train/bus/walking to Chicago to see this festival. Manchester orchestra, lykke li, bright eyes, the kills, muse, should I even name more?

2. It's official, people. THE Amanda Hyneman is gracing New York with her presence this weekend. She and Nathan! We'll be going to the Kills show Friday with Ali and her roommate Jess. Glorious.

3. My sweet friend Jonas is coming in town Thursday, and I am stoked to see him- as I haven't seen him in months, maybe over a year? We are going to the Yankees game against the White Sox that night with some Memphis folks.

4. Pinkberry. If you haven't discovered this yet, check it out. Ashley and I ordered this yogurty delicious treat for dinner tonight. It melts in your mouth, I really don't know how to describe the taste. You've just got to order it.

Praying for friends and family in Memphis and surrounding areas during the storms tonight. Love y'all.

Ok folks, I'm back

It's been a few, but I'm back in full swing.

My first trip back to Memphis was even more wonderful than anticipated.

First day.night - afternoon with bestie Amanda ful of mint tea (thank you Aunt Holly), spray tan (explain that in a moment), and a feather extension in my hair; manicure time with Mama with lovely chatting time... then to tops it off - movie with my brothers and soon to be sister and her sisters. African Cats. Is it bad to say that i teared up multiple times when I was trying my hardest to hate on the film? Then a nice little hang with Loye and her Ellsworth at Brian's house/Huey's where we fought off roaches and I dramatically freaked out when I felt a roach crawl on my leg AHH!! But really - I can handle spiders. I can handle snakes. I can handle pretty much any insect/reptile/amphibian that you throw my way. But not roaches. I just cringed at the thought. Can we stop talking about it now? Ok done. Back to what I referred to earlier. Morgan/Wright/Mom/Dad/everyone that saw me Friday morning informed me that my skin was juuuuuuust a bit deprived of Vitamin C and I was 4 shades a Larry Byrd. CLEAR. So yeah that's why I opted for the spray tan.

Second day - visit with my grandmother, Coca, then of courrrsee - Easter with the fam. May I say that my pop/mama fix the greatest ham in the world? I'll say it. Because they do... And we ate a delicious lunch fixed by my mama for the fam, Lauren, Wray wray (my amazingly sweet grandmother), and Andrew and Mallory, and Jeff, Wright's friend from school, who I'll go ahead and consider my new adoptive brother. We missed you JR!!! Then did a little shopping with mama. Got some beautiful new clothes that I'm rather stoked about. Then was Will Tashie's wedding. Beautifully extravagent wedding. Got to see all my sweet friends that I miss more than life itself. My CB, Emmie, Kat, Phil, Pat, Todd, Sam... Love them all!! It was a fun night. Called it early though because I was not feeling up to par....and onto Sunday....

Easter!!!! Woke up in the night feeling pretty crappy. Achey, feverish, all that fun stuff. Owen slept with me. Folks gave him a ham bone that day. Well it reallllly hit him about 3 am when he ralphed on my bed next to me. Poor baby. He was shaking, not feeling well at all. Cleaned him up, took some fever reducer for myself, and tried to get a few more ZZZ's. Had our ANNUAL and hopefully forever traditional easter basket hunt. Got me so many fun goodies from the bunny himself (herself? itself?). Went to the noon service at Hope, and of course one of my greatest highlights of the weekend - still savoring my hugs from Janie, Dave, Doris, Mallory, Jennifer, Kathy, Tammy, Amy, Patty, Emily, Lee, Taylor, Tucker, Eli, (have I named everyone?) I'm sorry if I've left off anyone, but it was the greatest getting to chat and see everyone on Sunday. Ahh wish I could be back!! Love you all so much!!

Bittersweet being back in the city, but I feel refreshed, and ready for what the Lord is bringing me in the days to come. Keep me in your prayers, and I will keep on writin'.

Much love!

Dos campadres with Nino, ScotScot and Ash

Another lovely reminder of back home tonight. My aunt, Nino, and cousin, Scottie, are in town from Memphis, and I got to go to dinner with them and Ashley tonight at Dos Campadres (more like tres! Get it- becausr i was with three froends...BAH!) Laughter is such great medicine for the soul, eh? Shared some pretty funny family stories.... i.e. Recollecting on Morgans Popsicle stain that he always had around his mouth as a child (still today, too?) or his u-shaped drool stain always on his shirts or onesies. And how id always be the one who so curiously dig into things as a child, not maliciously, but simply out of fascination with the world around me. For example, Nino walked into the kitchen at their old house, and there I was sitting with the pantry door open, with every cereal box and chips bag open and laid out around me, while I dipped my hand in each one. Noticing Nino, I turn around and go, "oh hey Nino!!," as if to say, "look at all this cool stuff I found!!" Describes me pretty head on I'd say, because, you know, I'm curious like a cat.

Enough story time, it's bed time.

Signs of Spring

Despite the heavy winds and rain today, there are blooming signs of Spring upon us. Though... it was in the 40s today! Maybe this means the summer won't be too unbearably hot? Either way, I've got my eyes set on the horizons and excited for better days to come in more ways than one!! This summer is going to be amazing; I cannot wait for it. Reminding myself to be thankful in all circumstances, as it is so easy to let myself become discouraged. Take heart! In GREAT news, I'm having a meeting beginning of next week in regards to my early promotion goals that I need to hit. Extremely exciting stuff. I've already come so far, and I know huge things are coming :) continue keeping me in your prayers!!

Feels like the good ol days

Spent the night with Diana last night. We went to spin class which I am definitely feeling today. When I stood up to bike the first time, I lost my balance and my ankle twisted. Got a good little sprain going right now, and hopping to and around work all day. Seriously feels like my cheerleading days. I think it's hilarious that the first time I work out in months I sprain my ankle. And not a better city to hurt it in :) took a car to work this morning and now cabbing it home because I've been in pain all day. Woop! Training has been awesome this week though. I'm learning so much. Actually starting to get excited about my work (and good at it too!)

In bed by ten... Really?

My bed and I are reunited again tonight, and before ten. I think it's a first for me! At least in a minute... I had sales training all day today and for the rest of this week, should be an interesting week to learn more from seasoned sales people. Talk soon? Thanks, and goodnight.

Just missed my doppleganger

Went out to eat with my team last night to celebrate me being at the company for three months (already, I know!), and our waitress informed us that we had just missed Lindsay Lohan at the restaurant. Do you understand how much that would have made the past ten years getting called Lohan so much more worth it?! ...quit my day job to become her official stunt double for all those movies she's doing. Anyway... It's going to happen someday... I swear it...
