Pasta margherita

A recipe from Janie :) the first of many to be made! Fresh basil (see picture below for the overwhelming unnecessary amount that I bought, and love), mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, parmesan, and green onion, and minced garlic with angel hair pasta. Delicious!! Best part of my day was coming home to fix a wonderful dinner! I think this is one if Mallory's favorites? It was so refreshing to have a meal so fresh!

I hope you know how delicious this basil smells. Quite possibly one of my favorites in the world...hmmm yum.

Had a meeting in times square today so snapped a few pics in the cab...

GNight! Much love.

Fresh direct

I believe I literally ordered half the grocery store today from fresh direct. The great grocery website to order from. Got 25% off my first order which saved me literally $67. No complaints. It's all getting delivered tomorrow and I'm going to be like a kid at Christmas. Or like me at Christmas, because if you've ever seen my shenanigans on Christmas morning you know what I mean. Pictures to update soon...

A double blog Saturday

Meant to post these up last night, but I babysat down in Tribeca last night for an adorable 4 month old baby boy. Pierson was already asleep when I got there, but he did wake up a couple times so I just walked him around and put him back down. But Lynne let me order from this amazing brick oven pizza place in the neighborhood called Il Mattone. Check out this amazingness:
Pretty much my standard selection for a brick oven pizza. Prosciutto, mushrooms, and artichoke.

The tomato sauce was pretty outstanding too. It wasn't cheap, but I'd splurge and get that again. Another reason NYC is so amazing - you can find outstanding food pretty much anywhere in this city.

Another reason why babysitting is one of the coolest things I've done on a Friday night since I've been here: the view from their window....
Arguably the best view you're going to get of Manhattan short of an aerial view

another hump day dinner and modern family

Ali and I met for our usual Hump Day dinner, and finally got a few others to join in: colleague of ali's and 2 colleagues of mine. Always look forward to catching up with friend mid-week.

Did anyone else catch Modern Family? I am always in high hopes that Luke is going to develop into a significant character on the show, seeing that his personality is absolutely hilarious.

Work is has been going much better this week, as I've set a few meeting to hopefully bring on some large projects for us. Though I want to be so excited for the progress I am making at TransPerfect, I still have to continually remind myself that despite my good days, despite my bad days: I have to keep working hard to be successful in whatever field I choose. And even if I end up being really great at something, I want to love what I am doing. I want to be happy with my job, which I realize is not often possible. So if you are reading this, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers. I am honestly being very impatient with God because I want to know the answers immediately - I want to know what I need to do right now as far as my future foes! But as you know it does not work like that. It's going to take a lot more time and experience to figure out what it is that I love doing.

Rambling, my apologies. AM: see you in 7.5

Until tomorrow...

Cascabel

Had dinner with Diana again tonight because she's leaving me for a week to go to Dallas. We ate at Cascabel in Upper East. Delicious guacamole, corn on the cob, and tacos. Though it's almost midnight and I'm still uncomfortably full.

We love you, Bruce!

Bruce Pearl made Spring time worthwhile. In the post-football blues tendencies, Bruce made us be as school spirited at Saturday gamedays (well...nearly.). Not always easy for a basketball coach to accomplish, especially at an SEC as ours where football is life. But Bruce is amazing, a character. A wonderful coach, and from all first-hand accounts, a great man, too. While the football program was a whole frenzy in and of itself, Bruuuuuccceeee made us care about another sport besides football for once. And not just care about it - LOVE it! Never a dull or dead home game that I remember in Thompson Boling.

Here's to the man, Bruce Pearl. We love you, and you've always got my support 100% and I feel quite certain most of the Tennessee student body.

Subway Laughter

Got off a train from Brooklyn earlier laughing uncontrollably at my friend Tucker who (moments after he commented on how the large man dressed in full black khaki sitting across from us on the subway definitely was the origin of the stout smell of urine) had his toes, baby not big, stepped on my this 200+ man. Tuckers face turns bright red and he is in so much pain that all we can do is laugh at obscurity of the moment. Well, we then proceeded to have a long discussion about how New York is not the glamorous place that you envision it. It's dirty and it's real. That's the reality is that you can brush shoulders with a beautiful A List actress then next sit directly across from a large urine-infested man. The reality and the complete beauty of it. The reality of this city is something that I admire and envy.

We also spent a good while standing at the railways waiting on the subway watching for rats to pop out, and in one glorious moment, Tucker spit and landed on the back of one of those rats. And we laughed historically, and looked about as crazy as the woman with the purple hair and matching purple sweater playing her keyboard in union square station.

I love New York more and more every day, I tell you.

Union Square, Flatiron, Eataly, & Brooklyn

The best Saturday yet! Tucker and I went and explored Union Square, Flatiron, and Brooklyn.

Eataly. Literally the most amazing place I've ever walked into. Go and look it up please. If you're in NYC, if you don't go I'll be upset. Pasta. Cheese. Meat. Seafood. Sauce. Literally anything and everything Italian you've got it here. Yeah it's expensive. But I literally felt like I was back in Florence, Italy walking through the market. I miss it!

See a few pictures from my day:

March Madness

70 degrees & a beautiful day in NYC! I would have spent the whole day sitting outside in the beautiful weather but I had to work. Ah, the beauty of being an adult!

Watching some March Madness with my old friend Tucker who is in town for the weekend.

Sick Day

Started the day off not feeling 100% so I took a sick day. My manager took a sick day as well. Courtney, another girl on my team is sick, too! We're dropping like flies over here at TransPerfect Translations.

My brother called me out on Monday for seriously slacking on my blog. It's true. I have. I am going to start putting in the effort that I used to into documenting my experiences here. So picking back up...

I had dinner with Ali and her Bama friends, Aaron and Ashley last night. Always fun to hang out with some southerners. And got a good nights sleep last night. It's not fun not feeling well, but it is nice to have a whole day to myself to rest and not think about work for a few hours. Though, I still have been checking my work email neurotically. Best part of my day by far, though, is the package I got in the mail today from my mom. She brought back two bracelets, earrings, and a keychain from Kenya for me. I'm of course already wearing the bracelets and earrings, and put my keys on my new keychain. Whenever I like something, I usually wear it immediately. Mom, you know that better than anyone. :)

So I'm going to be honest. Part of the reason that I haven't been writing as much is because I really miss home a lot. A ton, actually. I miss my friends, my family, Owen. I miss Memphis. The transition from college into the work world is tough enough as it is, but it take it on alone and in a new city with a job that is not the most ideal (for now). It's just going to take time to adjust and be truly happy here, I guess. That being said, your prayers and support have been and will always be hugely appreciated.

On a lighter note, Happy St. Patty's Day, friends. Hope you are wearing your green today!

Church with Diana and her brother tonight. Then a grilled cheese for dinner.

Bed, sleep... I need to start writing more, I'm really slackin.

The Greatest Family in the World...

I have it.

Not just talking about Wright, Cindy, Morgan, and Wright, the Coxes, Keys, & the McDonalds. Though you do not even realize how happy I am to have my mom stateside... I have missed her something awful....

But I'm also talking about my Hope family. Y'all have been here to love and support me through everything, and I cannot even start to explain how much you all have meant to me.

I got a package from Janie Brooks tonight with tons of her recipes from home with a note on almost every single one. After a long couple weeks, it was the most wonderful thing to come home to today. Me, being the emotional being that I am, so course start to tear up per usual. Not to mention, the amazing care package Shelley sent me a couple weeks ago with a bunch of goodys, including a Trader Joes (MY FAVORITE) gift certificate, and the package with a beautiful Hope cross and some other fun things. Y'all are way, way too great to me.

Won't lie though, when I get to thinking about it, it makes me miss home all that much more. I am truly blessed with the greatest family, blood and extended.

Love y'all.

Mom in Amsterdam

Cute.

Hoboken Saturday

Yup... I missed yesterday. I'm not going to make this a habit, I swear. But I'm going to try to make my blogs longer this week to make up for it. As Sanko will probably make me not be lazy after work and go do stuff, I'll have more to write about.

Well yesterday at Courtney's was a blast. She went all out as well, such a great hostess. She put up St. Patrick's Day decorations and bought more brunch stuff than we even knew what to do with. It was a fun experience to be able to say that I've done a St. Patty's Day Hoboken, but I think I'll most likely sit next year out. It was pretty crazy around the town, which is why it was perfect that we just chilled at Court's and avoided all the madness.

Just hung up with the one and only Frankie McDangerous. He caught me up on the festivities of the Boxing Tournament in Knoxville this weekend. Apparently my younger brother still has a very furry face. I had my hopes up that Preston would trim it up for Wright while he was sleeping. That might be the case Easter weekend, Wrighty, so watch out.

Sanko has his interviews with a few modeling agencies over the next couple of days. Super excitinnngg. Proud that he is putting himself out there and casing after a dream. Pretty amazing and thankful to be apart of his experience up here.
MOM GETS BACK TOMORROW!!! I literally cannot waitttttt to hear her voice. So pumped. She is stopping off in Amsterdam with all the ladies for a few hours, so I asked Thomas if he would show her and everyone around, which he of course is happy to do. Ah wish I could be walking around Amsterdam! I miss it!

For Amanda Hyneman.....

Sanko rolled into town today. With some work friends watching a hilarious pop cover band play in the west side. Highly entertaining. Hoboken in the AM!

Skyping with pop

I'm currently skyping with my pops and Mister Owen. Dad's packing me a bag of clothes & necessities  to send up with Sanko tomorrow. I'm pumped. Though I really do need to clean my apartment before Morgan comes because it is a bit of a wreck right now! Planning on going to Hoboken on Saturday for the St. Patty's Day pre-celebration. Courtney is having a few of us over that day since it is basically the biggest day of the year in Hoboken.

Currently watching my dad pack a bag for me while we skype and I frown because I miss my house in Memphis so much!! Ah can't wait for Easter...

Chipotle

The best ever...

Had it once this weekend, and had it again today. Cannot get enough. Complete perfection. Simple and delicious. I feel like I talk about food way too much, but I cannot really help it when I am experiencing so much wonderful food in NYC. There's just way too many wonderful options available! Though I will admit I have lost a few lbs since I've been here. I'll be in great shape for the THREE weddings I am in in the next six months! YAY!

Anyway, Torrey and I went to Chipotle for lunch and it was an absolute treat. Burrito bowl, I am all about it. Morgan told me today that they put one in on the Knoxville strip in place of Magic Sushi aka THE CUBE!... aahhh haha good times! good times! But yes a muccch better use for that space than previous tenants. I feel like if any business were to succeed in that cursed space, it is Chipotle. Because it is the greatest.

short but sweet, I apologize. Sanko is getting into NYC on Friday, so I am very excited. Mom is finally getting back to the States on Monday so I can finally restore my sanity. Off to get a better night sleep soooo

ciao!
